Annual, stout, scapigerous herb; stem condensed, clump forming, tender, perennial; leaves in rosette of slender, spoon shaped, lyrate, often more or less lobed or pinnatifid, margins entire or slightly crenulate, pubescent along both surfaces; scape or floral axis bears a solitary, daisy like inflorescence; involucral bracts many seriate, obovate-oblong, herbaceous, villous, outer smaller, inner ones longer; ray florets 1-2 seriate, female, fertile, ligulate, usually 3-lobed, scarlet-red, yellow or orange; disk florets bisexual, fertile, tubular, 5-lobed, bronze-yellow in colour; stamens syngenecious, anthers not appendaged; ovary-1 celled, 1-ovuled, solitary, basal, obtuse, style arms elongate; achenes dry, indehiscent, seed erect; pappus 1-seriate, bristles white. |
