Perennial climbing, shrubs ; branches glabrous; leaves alternate, shortly petiolate, broadly ovate, acuminate at apex, obtuse at base, entire or undulate, glabrous; flowers in cymes, usually in clusters of 3; bracts showy, large, purple or red; basal part of perianth white, tube adnate to bracts, limbs 5, fimbriate; stamens 5-10, subequal, included; ovary stipitate; style lateral, stigma linear; anthocarps fusiform, glabrous or pubescent, 5-ribbed.
