Diagnostic characters:
It is a large-growing fresh water crocodile; snout relatively broad and heavy; forehead concave; ridge in front of eye absent; dorsal scale in 16-17 rows on trunk; postoccipital scute absent, teeth includes 13-14 pair of teeth on upper jaw and 14-15 pair on lower jaw. Color: grey to brownish. 
Habit and Habitat:
It inhabits in ponds, rivers, rice fields, muddy ditches, lakes and marshes.
Diet:
Mammals, fishes, birds and reptiles.
Legal Protection:
WL (P) A, 1972- Schedule I.
Conservation status and Threats:
Vulnerable. Uncommon. No serious threats observed.
Distribution: Madhya Pradesh: Jabalpur, Seoni, Shivpuri (MNP), Nimach (GWS), Sagar. Elsewhere in India: Throughout. Elsewhere outside: Sri Lanka and Nepal.
