Diagnostic characters:
Carapace olive with yellow rim, yellow-bordered ocellii; plastron light grey; forehead with black reticulations and large orange or yellow patches; across snout and on sides. Head large; snout strongly down turned.  Juveniles are olive-green with black reticulations and narrow yellow border above. Carapace: 600mm.
Habit and Habitat:
Inhabits rivers; lakes, ponds and reservoirs.
Diet:
Snails, fish and larvae of mosquitoes are consumed
Legal Protection:
WL (P) A, 1972- None.
Conservation status and Threats:
Vulnerable. Uncommon. Loss of habitat.
Distribution: Madhya Pradesh: Gwalior (NCS) and Bhopal. Elsewhere in India: Northern and Eastern India. Elsewhere outside: Bangladesh and Nepal
