Diagnostic characters:
|
Dorsal scales large, strongly imbricate and keeled, pointing backward and upward, ventral scales smaller than dorsal and more or less keeled; Upper head scales large, unequal, strongly keeled or tubercular. Dorsal colour olive-brown with 3 rows of dark-brown light edged spots on the back and base of the tail; the spots of middle row are most prominent and rhomboidal; a white streak on each side of the neck bifurcating behind and an oblique one from the eye to the angle of mouth; limbs with dark-brown cross bars; throat profusely spotted with dark-brown and orange; belly yellowish-white with numerous orange dots. SVL: 80-92 mm. |
Habit and Habitat: |
A ground dwelling lizard. Lives in the holes in the ground; generally found sitting on stones, but can climb up to a metre on vegetation. Crepuscular and nocturnal in habits and sluggish in movements, often not attempting to escape when approached |
Diet: |
Feeds on grasshoppers and their nymphs, earwigs, beetles, bugs, arthropods and spiders |
